Did you all see Greta Gerwig’s latest project? I do not know what to think about this one, it seems kind of bonkers! Let’s discuss in comments. I have cut and pasted the article below:
Greta Gerwig to Adapt the Fall of Adam, Filming to Start in 2025
Following on the heels—er, Birkenstocks—of Barbie, Oscar-nominated filmmaker Greta Gerwig announced yesterday that she will adapt another iconic property for the big screen: the story of Adam and Eve. The Warner Bros. film, Ribbing Adam, will be a comic take on the tragic myth, telling the story of the first couple’s fall from grace from the perspective of Eve. Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie will star as Adam and Eve, pairing up for a second time after Barbie. Robbie and Gosling have also signed on as co-producers.
The biblical adaptation is a surprise move from Gerwig, who was slated to partner with Netflix to write and direct new adaptations of The Chronicles of Narnia. But with Warner Bros. pushing for a sequel to Barbie, Gerwig decided that the creation story could be a way to revisit the Mattel doll “in spirit, if not in name.” She also remarked that, “With the Christian themes of Narnia, revisiting the Book of Genesis felt like a useful detour and even a way to prepare to take on Narnia and all its elements.”
As with Barbie, viewers can expect a playful take on the classic material. Music will also be an important part of Gerwig’s new film, with Gosling and Robbie pushing for another surreal ballet and a comic centerpiece to rival “I’m Just Ken.” Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, and Lorde are said to be in talks to write songs for the director.
Not much has been revealed about the supporting cast of characters, but Timothée Chalamet is being eyed for the role of Serpent. Gerwig is rumored to be looking to cast actors for the role of Apple, Tree of Life, God, and a host of angels.
When asked about Adam and Eve’s costuming—or lack thereof—Gerwig would not comment on the extent of the fig leaves but said it would be a movie appropriate for all ages. She also hinted that her Garden of Eden could exist in a contemporary setting—and that Eve might have a mother.
“I want to have some fun with this myth we all know so well,” Gerwig said. “I like play with these stories that come with a lot of baggage.”
Production on the blockbuster project is underway, with filming set to start in early 2025. A theatrical release is planned for Summer 2026.
