Today I’m talking about the TV shows I’ve been watching over the past few months. I meant to send this out last week, but everyone in my family caught a cold and I’ve been scrambling to get everything done before the holiday break. Also, in Maine, the days get very short this time of year. When night falls, it’s like a heavy dark curtain bringing an end to the day. It feels like the show is over for 2024. So, this is my last post until 2025. Now, let’s talk TV . . .
Somebody Somewhere is my favorite show on television right now. I am so attached to these characters. I love how the delicate, subtle plotting contrasts with the bawdy, very funny dialogue. The cinematography is often gorgeous and unexpectedly moving. There’s something literary about the pacing and the way time passes. Each episode feels like a short story. The overall story arc is very unusual, following a woman who is trying to reconnect with old friends and family, and also, to reconnect with herself. It’s very therapeutic without feeling like a heavy-handed therapy-infused narrative. It’s just . . . life. This is its last season and I will be sorry to see it go.
